Using our expertise and skills as bat surveyors, as well as our endless intrigue for bat ecology, we will guide you on a bat safari to introduce you to the sights and sounds of the town’s Chiroptera.
With specialist equipment we will eavesdrop on your local bats; highlighting the diverse and awe-inspiring sounds of different species undertaking various behaviours.
Our Echo Meter Touch 2 PRO, will allow you to be able to hear, and also see the ultrasonic echolocation calls of bats on a colour spectrogram! We will also have heterodyne Magenta 4 detectors for you to use, enabling you to compare two popular models if you are considering purchasing your own bat detector.
Perhaps we will hear the drip-dropping of large Noctules as they pass through their nightly commute, or even the rapid-fire of Daubentons as they hunt invertebrates over the water.
This mini-exped is suitable for all ages. We understand that children are particularly intrigued by the fascinating world of bats so *under 18’s are very welcome to join under supervision of a responsible, paying adult. We have found that children aged 7 and over are able to enjoy and appreciate bat ecology most.
Please note that the route includes walking down concrete steps by the bridge.
